(EN) Every full-time student will be assigned an academic adviser according to their concentrations during his / her study period. The academic advisors meet with students several times a year and provide advice on students’ concerns regarding but not limited to what courses to take, what their capstone topic should be as well as potential employment and career options.

Career Support

The principle of our mentorship programme is to match mentees with similar interests, aspiration of mentees and expectations of mentors, to accelerate the personal and professional development of mentees. This is achieved by providing mentees with advice, guideline and feedback from mentors in the healthcare industry.
Participation to the mentorship program is voluntary basis and the partnership is based on mutual trust. The mentoring relationship officially end after from year from October – September. It is expected to meet up at least 4 times throughout the year.

Roles and Responsibilities

​Our mentors and mentees embrace different roles and responsibilities.
As a MENTOR, you can take on the following role(s):

As an adviser

You consider the goals of your mentee and discuss the steps required to achieve them.

As an initiator

You open up new perspectives, provide stimuli for goals and paths of development, point out underdeveloped or unrealised potential and encourage the ideas and initiatives of your mentee.

As an arbiter of knowledge

You address specific issues, offer your mentee advice and bring your own expertise and skills to the table.

As an initiator

To take initiative to drive the relationship and be responsible for own career development and planning
Specific responsibilities:
  • To have clear expectation on the programme and initiate a plan of activities that matches the expectation
  • To provide feedback about the mentorship relationship and be open to receiving feedback with the mentor regarding the career plan and potential obstacles. When providing feedback, be honest, yet tactful. Always remember using the proper tone
  • Be polite and courteous; be responsive in emails/ meetings and ask questions
  • To provide feedback about the mentorship with the School by completing the programme survey in December and June.

(EN) CUHK Support

Office of Student Affairs (OSA)

(EN) The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) provides a variety of activities and services to assist students to explore and experience different aspects of university life and to make the best out of it. These include supporting student activities and student bodies, services for non-local students, mental-wellness promotion as well as career planning and development. This aims to enhance students’ potential development as well as their holistic personal growth. Learning enhancement services and off-campus housing information are available to help non-local students navigate adjustment issues and provide information related to rental accommodation outside the CUHK campus.

The Independent Learning Centre (ILC)

(EN) The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) offers both academic and career-related support services in both English and Chinese for all CUHK postgraduate students. The 2-hour workshops provide practical training in dissertation/disciplinary-specific journal paper writing, oral/poster presentations, viva preparation, writing of literature/systematic reviews and many other areas to assist our postgraduate students in spreading their research far and wide. The ILC also engages students in one-to-one consultations on how to improve their written and oral work by giving them expert advice and recommending specific learning strategies and tools. The Centre has also developed many useful online learning resources based on the needs of our Postgraduates.

Postgraduate Halls

(EN) Postgraduate Halls offer approximately 1,600 on-campus hostel places to students taking full-time research programmes or full-time UGC-funded taught programmes at very affordable rates. There are rooms for single occupancy and shared accommodations. As the hostel places are very popular, non-local students should apply for hostel places before arrival to Hong Kong.

University Medical Service Office

(EN) The University Medical Service Office (UMSO) provides on-campus medical, dental and health promotion services to full-time students. Our medical team includes full-time doctors to provide comprehensive family medicine care to the University members. The health clinic is equipped with a minor operating theatre, a dispensary, a medical laboratory and a physiotherapy unit to provide primary medical and dental care services. Medical services are generally free of charge, while the Dental Unit charges a nominal fee.

The Office of the Arts Administrator (OAA)

(EN) The Office of the Arts Administrator (OAA) is responsible for presenting and organising arts programmes, promoting and coordinating campus-wide arts activities, and providing educational opportunities in the arts for students’ holistic development. “CU Culture Trail” Guided Tours are regularly held for students and the public to re-discover the beautiful landscape of the campus and the spirit of the University.

Sports Facilities

(EN) CUHK and its Colleges offer a wide variety of sports facilities, including stadiums, gymnasia, an olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, fitness rooms and a water sports centre.
